How Substance Abuse is Treated in Drug Rehab Center?
Rehab centers do offer many different forms of treatments to their patients. Majority of the treatments begin with detox and the progress starts from there. Some are prescribing medication to be able to help them as they’re working through other treatments. This might include counseling as well as behavioral therapy. The treatment that’s being offered in drug rehab facility depends mostly on personnel’s training, the facilities that the center has and of course, the facility itself.
As for drug addicted patients, there is no single treatment that can work effectively for all of them. It is due to the reason that the treatment they are going to get wouldn’t be based on drugs they’re addicted to but also, on their needs and capacity.
Detoxification – in general, this is the first step that involves cleansing the body of toxins particularly the substance or the substances that they’re addicted to. In the detoxification process, it is being expected for a person to undergo withdrawal from what they addicted to and it will be unpleasant and at times, can be fatal as well. When the patient undergoes detox, they are under close supervision and might be prescribed with some medication in order to help them get through the most difficult parts. This process might last for as long as 3 weeks but sometimes can take even longer. Basically, it will depend on the person who is undergoing the treatment.
Formal assessment – after the detoxification, the rehab center is going to perform a formal assessment. In the assessment, it will show if there are other treatments that will be needed. This is sometimes, quite complex to complete. The substance abuse will involve treating the physical and psychological illnesses as well as symptoms. Not only the fact that they will be weaned off the substance in which the patient was addicted to, if they’re using drugs to deal with such symptoms of psychological disorder, it should receive proper treatment for it too. This will be necessary if they want to zero in any odds of having relapse in their drug abuse.
Individual counseling and group therapy – these two does play an important role when it comes to treating psychological illnesses. One type of counseling that is being offered in drug rehab centers are behavioral therapy. As for those addicted, they might just develop a habit of taking drugs at certain part of the day or certain settings. Through behavioral therapy, the counselors try to assist the patients in realizing that they could break free from these habits and be able to function normally without relying on the drugs that they’re addicted to.
